Pablo Gubitsch, born in 1998, is a photographer and writer based in Paris. Trained at the ETPA in Toulouse, he won the Grand Prix there in 2024. Initially focused on documentary filmmaking, his work has evolved towards introspection, drawing on the links between text and image. He has developed an intimate body of work nourished by memories of adolescence, which has resulted in his first novel, to be published in 2026 by Les Impressions Nouvelles.
“I left Forbach, a small town in the Lorraine mining basin, in 2017. I left in a hurry, after spending my last year wandering around the town where I had grown up. I had dropped out of school. My girlfriend at the time had just left me. I spent my days lying in bed between four walls, my evenings in parking lots, and my nights drinking and smoking.
I left with this pain: leaving behind the people who populated my adolescence and the places that held the memories. I refused to see this past buried or scattered in the discontinuous flow of adult life that awaited me. I wanted to honor the promise I had made to myself one day—probably one evening—on a vacant lot with my group of friends: to never forget who we were, to let that version of ourselves live on somewhere.”
