Clément Gatimel was born in 1998.
Passionate about photography since childhood, he trained at the ETPA in Toulouse between 2020 and 2023. His vision is nourished by a variety of influences: the baroque aesthetic, which he reinterprets in a contemporary language; the colorful emotion of Almodóvar’s films; the chiaroscuro of Caravaggio; and the extravagance of Ouka Leele.
His approach, combining intimate investigation and poetic reconstruction, weaves narratives that allow the past to dialogue with the present.
“In 1975, my grandfather disappeared. In 2023, I left for Spain. I came back with his suitcase. Fragments of family history came together.
When my friend Mariama saw the photographs from this trip, our personal stories merged in a powerful empathy. Following the death of her father, from whom she had had no news since 2016, Mariama decided to visit Senegal for the first time and asked me to accompany her.
Amidst the confusion of unanswered questions, there was the sweetness of immersion in her paternal family, like a reunion with faces she had never met before. This work does not claim to document Mariama’s inner life. It offers an interpretation of her journey, inspired by the echo of the encounter between our unique stories, carried by the poetry of what remains when everything else seems to pass.”
